How would you rate The British School in The Netherlands?
As a mother of three children attending The BSN, I am incredibly impressed with the level of support and teaching provided. The school鈥檚 environment and dedicated staff have exceeded our expectations in every way. Since transferring to BSN, my children鈥檚 grades have significantly improved, and they have developed a much more positive attitude toward school. The nurturing atmosphere, combined with excellent academic guidance, has truly made a difference in their educational journey. I highly recommend BSN to any parent looking for a top-quality international school in the Netherlands!
As a student who goes here. As IB students we are constantly not given opportunities and are taught at such a poor academic level and below what IB should be, our grades have dropped triple what they used to be and we feel constantly stressed. In comparison we see other IB schools including our sister school (SSV) and they are doing what you should properly be getting. The school is too small to fit the amount of students as well. I wish I switched and it鈥檚 not just me !!
Expected more. Some teachers are nice, but education is behind on national curriculum. Cannot recommend.
Very poor experience at this school. My children went to junior school, but after 3 poor years we left. The school is not selective, so there are MANY children with learning disabilities in the class (those who are not admitted to other international schools), and these children take up too much time and resources, to the detriment of the other children. Class sizes too big for a private school. Children have not learnt much. Academically very poor.
Excellent facilities, teachers, and staff who care for and know my children.
I鈥檓 a grandmother wanting to find out about the school since my 14 years old grand daughter will be starting school by august. Her name is Gaia Borello, Italian father and Argentine mother. She comes from Washington D.C. where she has lived for the last 10 years. She doesn鈥檛 speak Dutch yet.
It has a uniform and the teachers care pastorally. Bullying does not exist as it is such a nurturing environment.
My children attend the school from the age of three to sixteen. The school has first class facilities, but sadly the teaching does not meet the expectations of a school of this calibre. There is a lack of pastoral care in secondary school, making the SSV campus a large, impersonal place which fosters a rather unfriendly environment which my teens did not thrive in. We ended up leaving the school, after 12 years there, disappointed by the quality of the teaching and the general atmosphere.
BSN Voorschoten (SSV) has really good dedicated teachers who work hard to bring out the best in their students. It has great facilities, including state of the art design technology, art and food technology rooms and a beautiful sports field with tennis courts and hockey and rugby pitches.
Although the BSN looks impeccable to an outsider, it's very different once you discover how it's run. Being the only school offering A Levels in the South Holland region, it holds an exclusive position. As a result, it can dictate how it is run without much risk of losing its students, which often leads to the students' needs being overlooked.

I studied here from 1999 to 2001. I hope the school has improved since then. At the time it was a rather unpleasant place for an student with a non-British background and the school provided absolutely no guidance with regards to choice of a university and further education at graduation (even though someone was actually tasked with that). The only positive experience were physics classes.
