How would you rate GESS - 麻花视频 School Singapore?
Not the best academics especially after primary- IB scores dropping
My two children started school from kindergarten to secondary school in the school. I witnessed the school development, from small campus to very big which accommodate kindergarten to diploma level students. This is the only school which suit our requirements. Since we join the school the administration is always in unsatisfactory level for me. But we stay as the teachers performance is up to our expectation. From time to time we experienced the school administration became worst and they hiring incompetence teachers. Teachers even can鈥檛 help to solve teenage issue such as using swearing word at school. School just simply bully kids and parents if they found the children will not support their school profile. School will tell off to kids and parents that they are not fit to their school. If the kids did not perform and problematic type they will kick off the kid out of school immediately even the mistake is not so serious. Well my suggestion the Board of GESS should aware and should take an action. Or the Board itself must have peoples who are really care about the school.
The school is just too big with both pre-school, primary and secondary. My youngest kid (grade 1) often struggles with finding his friends during the breaks because the school is so big and the kids can basically be anywhere during the breaks. There are only a few parents talks during the year, which last for 15-20 minutes. The information from the German section is only in German, despite the fact that some parents are not German-speakers. The worst thing is the food from canteen. The quality is REALLY low and they also offer a lot of unhealthy snacks. It doesn't make sense to me why a school canteen needs to sell all these unhealthy snacks when they are teaching about healthy eating during school time. I have blocked my kid's card so they wouldn't be able to buy anything besides lunch, but it is not easy as they see their friends eating pizza slices, croissants, Milo drinks etc. every day. The bus- aunties are not nice with to kids. My children have told me several times that the bus aunty told them to shut up. Many times when I asked for feedback from the teachers regarding my kids progress (especially in the subject English), either I don't get an answer or they refer me to the end of year assessments. If I would decide today, I would not send my kids to this school.
Filthy lies from the admission team, snarky, sneaky and highly unprofessional behaviour. My son was applying to several schools as an ib transfer student, including gess. Admission officer Val lied saying IBO does not allow a transfer from a November and may session school, this caused so much frustration and chaos and denied to show any proof of IB> However, for all the other may schools we applied to, we were given proof from emails and calls to the IBO including the IB rules booklet , just for them to say there is no such rule at all. GESS made this rule up because they refused to accept my son but did not want to say that so made up some lousy loser excuse. What a shame! GOOD LORD my son didn't end up in this rachet shit school. Open house was horribly organised. Im sure this is not the first time admissions has lied. disgusting behaviour. Don't even want to know what the school is like if lies are already coming from admissions. Don't come here
Very bad. The worst teachers and leadership I have ever experienced. If you care about the education of our children stay away from this school. They also have a very bad toxic internal environment within the people working there. They all seem to be frustrated and demotivated, which is then passed on to the children. And to add to the above, very poor academics. Rated one of the lowest in IB in Singapore.
All reviews are non-sense, i am only 6 months in GESS and never seen any bad side of GESS.
Gess is a strong school with good facilities such as a football field a caf猫 and more. The sports at Gess is really good. Probably the best in Singapore
Don't send your kids here, they have 0 respect to the parents and students. Teachers shout and threaten students, and if you complain they will put spot on your kids record. Go and check online how many parents experienced the same, this school has no humanity.
Our family is new to Singapore, and joined GESS this academic school year. Both my husband and I were rather impressed by the school's effort to orientate new families - besides the usual school tour, open house, we've had the chance to attend a couple of informal coffee sessions with fellow parents. This was absolutely useful for us as people new to the country, not just the school. My 2 children have settled in quite nicely into their classes - 1 in preschool, 1 in primary. Thank you to the teachers and fellow parents!
Found working with them very unprofessional, not an organisation to be trusted.
My eldest child graduated in July 2022, and I have 2 younger kids who still go to school here. Haven't heard them complain about the school so far, and they love it that they get to explore a vast number of activities and hobbies. Teachers are generally great at communicating with students - though as Asians and interacting with teachers differently, we had some getting used to - which is a good thing we appreciate now.
The teachers and staff are really friendly and well trained, the school is also really modern, beautiful and clean. The canteen food could be a little cheaper, but other than that, I really enjoy my time in school.
For about 7 years I am studying at GESS and I feel that I am very well supported and appropriately challenged by the teachers. I am very happy and proud to be studying at GESS and can highly recommend it to other students. I love the new campus although it's quite big.
The campus is spacious and very modern equipped. Teachers and staff are friendly. It is a non profit school so you can see what you paid is really used in learning and teaching activities and to keep the very competences teaching team.
Does not have the right culture to teach children about respect, trust, caring and diversity.
Great working and teaching experience
The school has been home for my children for the last 4 years and we are overall very happy with the commitment of the teachers and how they are supporting our children. The new campus is just amazing and has such a nice and friendly feeling.
Our children were very happy here and studied at GESS for 7 years. We especially liked the Dairy Farm campus and the sports facilities and programmes available. We are an active outdoor family and our kids have lots of hobbies and interested which they could follow in the after school programmes.
GESS is a very nice and warm community school. Teachers are very experienced and motivated. I really appreciate how the teachers try to care for all our children's needs and come up with individual support ideas. The facilities are wonderful and are providing our students with excellent opportunities to pursue their passions. I am very glad that the school is also looking into learning opportunities that are not related to the classroom only. They recently launched a Programme where corporates and other organizations offer exclusive programs for students to explore their interests and talents. I highly recommend this school to other families.
This school was my children's haopy home for many years but now I have take out my family because the school has become very commercial. The new general manager had made many new rules that difficult for families. The advance school fee payment is the worst in Singapore and I am very sad I have to take out my children because of this. Not recommended especially in these difficult times for families with covid. This GM no care for family's situation
The school is very overrated. The teachers especially in the German section are very rude to students and if you want to go to Realschule in the German section the school doesn麓t . As a student the food is very overrated and the price you pay monthly is just too much for the service you get. The whole system is totally chaotic. They cover up things that happen for example that a student got beaten up and the school didn麓t even mention it. The school gets involved in your privat life and the teachers pretend tocare about you. The school handles every student thats out of line with the title ADHD and they have no expierience in working with kids. Which is bad because they are a school.
Very poor service and teachers don't show respect towards students. Many problems are hidden to make the school seem perfect and flawless. Privacy is often invaded by teachers or other parents which shouldn't be the case. Very judgy teachers and will show no patience or understanding. My son is very dissapointed and is very unhappy in this surrounding.
GESS - 麻花视频 School has a very positive and vibrant culture where students from so many different nationalities are welcome and I really appreciate it. The teachers are always trying to know the kids personally and have their heart in the work they do. I am more used to a culture where only academics are the focus but at GESS, the school really cares about a wholesome development where academics, character, and other individual talents are all supported. Nice school overall.
Their Swimming pool/facility are top notch But the school have a toxic culture where ,German Sector and European sector don鈥檛 interact. The German teacher/staff are rude and unqualified to coach Swimming. For their Swimming CCA they have to pay extra for their kids to participate and their equipment are shared. if you鈥檙e looking for a school to send your kids for Swimming you鈥檙e better off with uwsc/nexus/SAIS where their coaches are more qualified to coach competitive Swimming.
I cannot imagine the head teacher who is very rough and uncivil.
My girls are happy, they love the different nationalities. Following the IB program.
The teacher is an uncivil manner person, her comment to my family is totally unacceptable, no patient, no understanding, only have an irresponsible judgment.

My feedback is specific to the Pre-School section and I would not recommend sending any children here. Our child has been attending the pre-school here since Mar 2019. The major concern has to do with the lack of integrity. Our child came home with rashes on her forearms since returning to school after the circuit-breaker. We checked with GP and identified that it could be the sand from the sandpit in the school that might be causing the eczema to act up. But on one of the days one of our child's classmates had thrown sand at her face and body which caused a major eczema flare up. I received a call from the first-aider informing us that our child was experiencing an allergic reaction and that they were applying ice and antihistamine cream on her. But we were not told that this was a result of sand being thrown at our child. During pick-up after school, I deliberately made sure that I was one of the last parents so that I'd have some time to chat with the teacher about the eczema. We had enough time to chat and at no point during this conversation did the teacher mention that another child had thrown sand at our child, and that was the trigger for the eczema flaring up. Shockingly, it was my child who told me this while driving back. My wife called the teacher after school to ask if what our child was saying was true and it was only then that it was made known to us about this incident which was the cause the allergic reaction. According to the teacher she was aware of this incident, and another teacher had attended to our child, changed her clothes and brought her to the first-aiders. Surely, the adults in the room would have known this incident and surely one of them could have informed us sooner. We can't help but wonder why this crucial piece of information was withheld from us? This is important so that we can respond appropriately and give an accurate narration of the events to the doctor. When we asked the teacher, she said she had intended to tell us about this incident later in the day and the focus of the conversation during pick-up was simply on what the school had done to treat the problem. Does not make sense and utter lie! The teacher did not tell me anything about the treatment; it was the first-aider who had given me a comprehensive run-down on the phone. The teacher went on to say via WhatsApp message: "to be honest.. I'm not quite sure the throwing of the sand would have caused the reaction all over her body.. other kids have been playing in that sand for the past 2 weeks now and no one else has had any reaction.." Really? So much empathy and care. Hypocritical also because this teacher herself told me that she thought that the sandpit was not cleaned since Circuit-Breaker and that she's informed the School Management to clean or change the sand in the pit. Another parent also told me that her child has been having eczema reaction since returning to school after circuit-breaker. We had highlighted this to the teacher who brushed this off lightly. This is not the first time this teacher has not told us about injuries that had happened in class and we had to find out ourselves once and from another parent whose child had bitten our child on another occasion. Coincidence? We also inquired what the school had done with regards to the boy throwing sand at our child, particularly since the teacher told us that particular child has been a "handful" in class. The Asst Head of Pre-School replied with a sweeping statement that the school "always respond to incidences small or large in age appropriate ways, as we see Preschool as the place where children learn about socialising with others, how to behave and treat others within a learning community". Really? Is that what you say to the parents of a child who was bullied in school? In consultation with our doctor who specialises in paediatric allergy and immunology, we decided that we should withdraw our child for one semester at least and allow her to heal. But the school will not refund the fees for the semester, even with doctor's memo. So much for compassion.
